Meditation for beginners, and on...

From meditation for beginners and on, these pages offer instruction in the essentials of the essential - meditation!

Many of us view meditation as a tool for relaxation and chill, but this is not how it has been perceived throughout history, and it is not the orientation of these pages. (Though the instructions here would certainly offer significant help with relaxation!)

Over the centuries meditation has been practiced in many different ways by many cultures, as the greatest resource to link ourselves to the Divine. In fact meditation, and true absorptive prayer are our very means of linking with the Divine.

Meditation, with the help of an authentic Spiritual Teacher, becomes the bridge by which we are transported beyond our selves into Communion with the Greatness of Divine Being. (How is it possible that we can commune with the Greatness of Divine Being? Because, as my Guru, Adi Da Samraj has revealed to me, beyond the sense of being a separate being, we are Divine Being!)

A secret that is not known by many in our modern-day scientific culture is that truly absorptive meditation is a Gift, not a skill. There is no amount of will or cleverness that can achieve absorption in the All! A good analogy is that of falling in love - it is beyond our control. We cannot decide to fall in love and work hard enough to achieve it!

We do however need to prepare to receive the Gift, through the physical, emotional, and mental practices of meditation. There are very few and very simple basics to be learned in meditation for beginners -

- relaxation and surrender of the body - initially learned through supportive posture.

- relaxation and surrender of the breath - learned through simple breathing exercises or techniques.

- relaxation and surrender of feeling and emotion - an aspect of meditation often forgotten or not understood.

- relaxation and surrender of mind - the most difficult aspect of meditation (except that it too, is part of the Gift!)

meditation for beginners

I wish the simple guidelines that I'll be passing on to you, were sufficient to awaken you from meditation for beginners to the heart-fullness and joy of absorptive meditation.

However the profound Gifts of meditation are beyond the help that an ordinary person can offer. The essence of meditation is relationship with the Divine. For me, this would not have been possible without relationship with my Spiritual Teacher.

It is understood traditionally that relationship with a humanly incarnated Spiritual Realizer who has the capacity to Spiritually Bless and Initiate His or Her devotees, is the greatest opportunity available to us, for awakening to our inherent and true Condition, which is the Spiritual and Divine Reality. Communion through meditation is our key resource in the this Awakening!
