James Cameron's Movie is Clearly Mythical Story-Telling -

but are the Archetypes of the Film Merely Mythological?

Our experience of the term, Avatar may be recently drawn from the fantasy-mythology movie of that name. But if one has studied or is from a culture whose root language is Sanskrit-based we would probably recognise this ancient term to describe a Sacred principle - of the Divine crossing or descending to the human realm for the purpose of initiating and facilitating the Divine Awakening of human-kind.

This page explores the beautiful mythologies of James Cameron's film, Avatar and the Sacred and historical tradition of the true Avatar.

The film Avatar strongly reminded me of George Lucas' Star Wars. In my late teens, seeing this film for the first time, I was deeply moved to be more than entertained by the references to the Sacred through its archetypal story, its illuminated Jedi Knight, Yoda, and through the magic of the now cliched, "May the Force be with you". I was also reminded by Avatar of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, not only by the story of victory of good over evil, but also by the aspect of responsive forces of nature.

Why do we love these stories so much?

I feel it is because they touch on deeply important aspects of Reality which we in our un-enlightenment, have discredited.

Our hearts miss the beauties of the Sacred life and are awakened by the archetypal triggers that these stories offer us. Unless of course, we have become cynical.

Sadly our lives and world seem so remote from the Divine Reality, that cynicism is a frequent response to the kinds of sentiment that move the hearts of those more in touch, or more open.

Reading the reviews on Avatar on a film review website, I was surprised by the mixed response. What is there to not like about this film? For some it seemed that the characters and plot were shallow, but I can only say that the simplicity and beauty of the archetypes created a story-telling event that to my mind surpassed the needs of the human mind for complexity and intrigue!

So I pose these questions as a challenge to our scientific materialism and our cynicism -

Are we really remote from a Universal Force which imparts seemingly magical powers?

Is the Goddess of the movie, Eywah really fictitious - whatever we may name Her or perhaps more appropriately, may name that One?

Is the fight between powers of Divine Unity and powers of destruction and non-Unity, really not occurring throughout the cosmic domain, all over our planet and within our own selves?

Why do we throw away that which is beautiful and Sacred to us, in our modern western 'utopian' world?

We have been indoctrinated by the values of consumerism and the narrow views of scientific materialism such that we have become insensitive to the Sacred and Spiritual nature of Reality...

...and we are mislead in our thinking that one religion holds more Truth than another - the Divine Reality of our universe and all that is, proclaims that there is only the Divine, which can be manifested in unlimited Form, yet cannot be reduced. Perhaps each of our world religions manifest different aspects or understanding of the Divine Reality, but is this reason for disharmony, disagreement or war?

Our human history has been filled with the same kind of bloodshed as depicted in the Avatar film. It is time that we, the people of this planet demand that it stop, or our planet may not survive for much longer.

If the Divine could speak, what would be said about the destructive forces that we are bringing to our own planet (not dissimilar to those depicted in the film, Avatar)?

Avatar Adi Da Samraj calls the people of this world to collectively call for peace. His pivotal book, Not Two is Peace speaks this message to the world, and clearly outlines the outcomes of our not doing exactly that.

Brief quotes from Not Two Is Peace-

Human beings must accept, with humility, that their rightful position (and that of every one) in the naturally indivisible world-family of Earthkind (including humankind) is not the "ego-place" of prior dis-unity (and, thus, of separateness, separativeness, domination, and control), but the "heart-place" of prior unity (and, thus, of ego-transcending cooperation and tolerance).

The situation of humankind has gone through a progressive but dramatic change over the last few centuries — and especially in the last century. Now humankind is already interconnected and already face-to-face. Therefore, the Earth must become a sphere of "priorly united" nations. There must be a Global Cooperative Forum based on prior unity, on principles that have to do with the unified totality of humankind, and the unified totality that is the Earth-domain itself.

This is absolutely imperative — because the current disorder and threat to humankind and the Earth is a result of not taking into account the fact that humankind is now an interconnected unity that is face-to-face. That face-to-face situation is currently associated with all kinds of conflict — between different ideologies, different cultural histories, different religious associations, and so forth.

My communication in Not-Two Is Peace is a direct address to humankind as a whole, because of the now profoundly changed situation of humankind — a situation that is not really being acknowledged and understood to be the case.

In the present time, the social, political, economic, and religious domains of the human sphere are all characterized by a kind of "fundamentalism of the old days", a kind of "retro world" — and this is creating a disaster, because humankind has not shifted in its understanding to account for the real situation that now exists.

The current situation is one in which the prior unity of humankind is self-evident — but that prior unity is not being acted upon. Instead, people are still hoisting the old "flags" and looking for "victory". Adi Da
